Edgemere Kennels started in 1988 with the purchase of my first Alaskan Malamute, Ch Tangeluq's Grandslam in Spades, TT. Like all new dog owners, I thought Slammer was perfect in every way. Once we hit the show ring I rapidly realized that although Slammer was a perfect pet, he was not a perfect example of an Alaskan Malamute. But, I'd been bitten hard by the "show bug" and so Slammer was not an only child for long! He was followed by a couple of females and then another male Malamute in short order. And so began Edgemere Kennels.
Edgemere is a small kennel with a usual population of under 10 dogs. Breedings are carefully planned and I generally only produce a litter every one or two years. My girls are Canadian and/or American Champions prior to being bred and have been cleared of Hip Dyplasia and have had their eyes checked by a certified ophthalmologist. The stud dogs I use are chosen based not on proximity to me but on their suitability as the perfect match to whichever of my girls is being bred. This has led to my using stud dogs located all over North America - from British Columbia and Alberta in Canada and Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York State and Montana in the USA and as far away as Australia. As a result, I've produced puppies that are sound in both mind and body - I have produced many dogs that have attained Canadian and American Conformation Championships as well as Working Dog titles. And I am exceptionally proud to say that I am on my fourth generation of dogs that carry the official "Temperament Tested" title which is awarded by Temperament Test Associates after evaluating the dog through a series of tests to determine good temperament.
Edgemere Kennels relocated from the east coast of Canada (Nova Scotia) to Edmonton, Alberta in 2014. Both humans and dogs couldn't be happier with the weather here in the lovely Canadian Prairies! Alberta is well known for beautiful, snowy and cold winters and endless sunny days. Don't forget to check out my page with landscape and wildlife photos I've taken around this glorious province!
